Experimental archaeology has become a burgeoning field within that has answered significant questions about human experience driven by the same curiosity, ingenuity, and creativity that allowed our ancestors to thrive. It has also captured the public imagination and provides thousands with a tangible link to a multitude of imagined pasts.

This event is about celebrating the Auxiliary troops who formed an important part of the Roman Army. These were men who served in the Roman army and came from all parts of the Roman Empire.

Forging knives, making paints or making finger loop bracelets: the Romans and the monasteries in the Middle Ages created many things by hand. On the handicraft course on the Vindonissa Legionnaires' Path and Königsfelden Monastery grounds, young and old can watch the professionals at work in seven workshops, try out old handicrafts for themselves and take little memories home with them.

On Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the blacksmith Jürgen “Schorsch” Graßler will show his skills in the workshops of the Roman Villa Borg.
