The purpose of ISBSA is to bring together all those involved in the study of the form, structure, function, and operational performance of ancient boats. The first symposium examined the methodological problems of studying boat remains. Many of the topics addressed at that initial meeting, such as experimental archaeology and ethnography.

The conference “Archaeology for the People” addresses all those professionally interested people in public archaeology, (open-air) museums, living history and interpretation. While archaeologists discover ever more sites and gain insight in the past, the challenge is to convey these stories accurately to the public in an appealing way.

The biggest peak of the year is approaching, which means Christmas hustle and bustle in Sagnland's 19th century Krikkebjerghouses.

Whitsun 2018 will be exciting at the Heuneburg! Living history actors depicting prehistory, Iron Age, Roman times, the Middle Ages and modern times populate the Celtic town. How was an armament set up? How were weapons forged? What did a soldier of the First World War carry in his pack? All these questions will be answered!

IMTAL Europe members, museum educators, guides or volunteers who wish to specialise in costumed live interpretation are invited to the IMTAL Europe Mini Conference and AGM in Salzburg/Austria on December 13th - 15th. The Mini Conference offers theatrical presentations, "how-to" workshops and talks given by museum professionals from around Europe. Get ready for an exceptional experience.
