The real goal of Hack Frederick is to create an event that will appeal to all computer developers in the region, creating a place for everyone to get together, to network, to learn, and to expand as a community. A one-day event with effects that will be felt throughout the community for the year to come.
This year, we are focusing the event, with the help of techfrederick, into a structured hackathon with both competitive and learning aspects of the event to appeal to everyone.
So what will you be doing? This year we have a rallying point goal providing focus to the event. Later this year (October 5th), techfrederick is hosting it’s annual “Tech Frederick Games“, a day of fun pitting various technology companies of the region against each other in outdoor challenges. TechFrederick would like to provide a better scoreboard system that can display on a large screen during the event and be accessed via cell phones by the competitors to see where they stand. Where do you come in?
For experienced programmers: We invite you to a competition! You can self-organize into teams (match-making services will be provided at the beginning of the event to help everyone find a good team they can work with). Each team will create their own solution to the problem, with specific final details being given that morning. At the end of the day, each team will show off what they created. In the end, techfrederick will choose which solution they like the best, and will use it at this fall’s games!
For newer programmers: Are you just starting off as a programmer? Are you more into design? Do you not know anything but still want to join us. We have you covered! We will work with everyone to ensure that people get paired up with groups that will provide the best learning experience. We will also have a couple people who are ready and willing to join up with the newest among you and help use this ‘competition’ as a great opportunity to teach you the skills of the trade in the process. Sure, you might not walk away the winning team, but you’ll have learned a ton and had a great day making connections in the process!
The event will take place from 9 am until approximately 5 pm on August 11th. We are asking for people to register for the event in advance, and are charging a nominal $20 fee for this event to help cover the per-head costs.
Lunch (pizza, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available) and a t-shirt are included in your registration.
This year we’ve chosen an amazing venue that will create an open and welcoming feel to the day. It will take place at the Clarion Inn and Event Center near the Francis Scott Key mall in their large open indoor courtyard. There is plenty of free parking, and in the off-chance that you are coming from farther away, they obviously have a number of rooms that you can rent to turn it into a full weekend complete with some Frederick tourism.
The address of the venue is:
5400 Holiday Dr
