LEARN TO COOK DARK AGE CUISINE AND FEAST LIKE A LORD IN OUR SAXON HALL!

You鈥檝e heard of Beowulf, but do you know what he ate? Have you ever tried sweet Saxon bread, acorn coffee, or beer poached salmon? What about split pea pottage, nettle and wild garlic soup, or meadowsweet mead? Join us at the farm to cook and enjoy a Saxon feast only a stone鈥檚 throw away from the site where, over a thousand years ago, real Saxons sat round their own fire and did the same.

Under the expert guidance of Craig Brooks, author of cookbook Eat Like a Viking!, you鈥檒l discover the ingredients used in Saxon cuisine, prepare them using historic tools, and learn to cook over an open fire. In the fitting setting of our Saxon hall, you鈥檒l create some of the oldest and most enduring recipes in our culture, from butter and cheese to flatbread and sausages, and before you know it, you鈥檒l be eating like King Alfred the Great!
